Hottest Fads Compared

Perhaps the most significant things people want to know when they realize the time has come (again) to cut some of the daily food intake is which diet is the best. Though we are all different beings, we all have the same objective: a diet that can make us thin in no time at all. A sort of wonder pill or eating plan that makes fat get away and never ever returns. That's in fact the second part of the big wish: how to certify that all the weight lost during dieting stays lost through the years.

The more diets available in magazines and on the Internet, the more people are puzzled about what dieting actually means and about the right way of bringing your body back in shape. The growing number of overweight people has turned weight loss into an industry like never before and the market is rising each year. It seems that these days all one needs is a stylish idea and a flair for marketing in order to make a lot of money or acquire a lot of fame by proposing some sort of weird diet, in spite of the lack of professional knowledge in this field.

And there is a LOT of diets. We're going to go here only through the best-known diets, because an examination of all the diets floating around the industry would be outside the scope of this article.

The Atkins Diet

So let's begin with one of the hottest fads of the dieting world: the Atkins diet. Pretty much everybody's heard of the Atkins diet, mainly due to the flood of articles praising the astonishing results, not to mention the loads of good mail from pleased customers. The biggest thing in favor of this diet is that it allows you consume high fat dairy products like cheese and butter. Though, the Atkins diet has fallen from its lofty perch over doubts of increasing the threat of heart diseases, not to mention the proved truth that bigger numbers of followers complain of diarrhea, weakness, muscle cramps and rashes. The argue over the scientific fundamentals of this diet is still raging.

The Zone Diet

Then comes the Zone diet; one more recognized eating plan. This diet is the invention of Barry Sears and it's all about eating the precise mix of foods in order to reach the proper hormonal balance. This state of balance, which is called the "Zone", allows the body take in calories and utilize them through the day without putting anything aside as fat. Sorry to say, this diet does some serious discrimination among foods without any scientific foundation. Starchy vegetables, whole grains and beans are excluded, even though these foods are not in disagreement with the principles of the diet. The American Heart Association says the Zone diet requires essential nutrients whereas promoting high-protein foods.

The Jenny Craig Diet

The Jenny Craig diet is next on the list. One of the longest running diets, Jenny Craig established this business in the early 1980s and it's still around. The essential plan of this diet is a trade off: you don't have to select recipes, do the shopping and the cooking, but you have to buy the Jenny Craig prepackaged food. And that runs to some $100 per week. Plus the membership costs. Plus the vegetables and fruits which are not included in the prepackaged food. If you can pay for it and if you can stick to it, the diet is pretty good quality. Still, alike low-calorie foods can be bought at the grocery store and you don't have to talk about this with a Jenny Craig specialist that insists on your eating the prepackaged food since he gets a profit from the sale price.

The South Beach Diet

From sunny Florida comes the South Beach diet. This one has the right idea and mistaken approach mixture down pat. Don't get me wrong, a lot of people have managed to lose weight with this diet and it really works. But the question is: can you actually stick to it? The first stage of the diet will remove most foods containing carbohydrates from your daily eating. Luckily, this phase lasts two weeks. Unluckily, second phase focuses on a half-hearted return of whole grains and fruits and lasts… as long as needed. If reaching the desired weight takes you one year, then that's precisely how long this phase is going to last. And if you don't like the foods permitted by this diet then you're out of luck. There are no options.

Weight Watchers

And however an additional veteran dieting program around is Weight Watchers. This is in fact one of the best diets around since it puts all the managing tools in the hands of the user. If you are truly committed to losing weight, you have all the information you require to do it. And a lot of people who are going through the identical thing are going to be there to assist you. If having company in hard times helps your determination, then you are most likely going to lose all that additional weight. If, conversely, you don't like the idea of being continually under peer pressure, then this diet is not for you.

As you can see from this small review, there are a lot of diets out there, dozens more than we've been able to cover here. The best thing to do when choosing a diet is to do as much study about it as possible. See what people who tried it have to say. Then see what doctors and dietitians have to say about it. Among those singing praises and those attempting to prove the diet wrong you can almost certainly get the truth yourself. Still, pay particular attention to what the doctors have to say. If they tell you a certain diet will put your body to risk then hesitate before trying it.
